FAQ

What is a library staff advisory group?

Advisory groups will meet regularly to make recommendations for best practices and system settings, and to assist CCS in updating documentation and procedures. Read the full job description.

How are advisory groups selected?

Library staff were self-nominated with director approval or nominated by their director. CCS staff assembled the rosters considering:

  • Distribution of seats across libraries

  • Balance of new and returning group members

  • Diversity of service areas for Database Management and User Experience

What happened to the IT and PAS Advisory groups?

The IT Advisory Group will not meet in 2019-2020. There were very few discussion topics at the 2018-2019 meetings. The IT Technical Group will continue to meeting quarterly in 2019-2020.

The PAS Advisory Group is being expanded to the User Experience Advisory Group. This will be a cross-departmental group. Staff from any department working with pac customization, mobile apps, or other patron-facing tools are eligible to participate. This could include adult, youth, and digital service staff as well as IT, technical services, or other areas of library service.

How are items added to advisory group agendas?

Agenda items are contributed by library staff in a number of ways, including but not limited to:

  • Help desk tickets about issues affecting all CCS libraries

  • Topics brought up at technical group meetings where additional discussion and input is needed

  • Polaris configuration decisions CCS and Innovative staff need additional library staff insight on

Library staff can suggest an item for discussion by emailing help@ccslib.org. CCS staff will prioritize agenda items as needed.

How often do advisory groups meet?

Advisory groups meet quarterly. Meeting dates are listed below, along with meeting agendas and summaries as they become available. All meetings are held at the CCS office in Arlington Heights.

Advisory group members are also required to attend related technical group meetings. For example, members of the Circ/ILL Advisory Group would attend either the Circulation or Interlibrary Loan Technical Group meetings. Members of cross-departmental groups like the User Experience Advisory Group or Database Management will attend technical groups that are appropriate to their area of expertise.
