Migration Update: December 29, 2017

We hope you're enjoying the holiday season! In this week's newsletter, we'll look ahead January as we gear up for 2018. CCS will be offering migration-related library visits in 2018. These option visits would not be hands-on or focus on functionality, and should not be seen as a substitute for in-house training. These visits would cover: Migration synopsis and review of go live schedule PowerPAC demonstration and highlights Your library director should have received an email with additional details and scheduling instructions. Address Cleanup Project

In our July data extract, Polaris received 648,040 address fields total from Symphony. This number includes information found in Symphony address 1, 2 and 3 fields. During the December reload, CCS and Polaris worked to adjust the original city and zip code mapping to reduce errors and invalid address fields. At the end of the process, roughly 13,000 address fields remained that could not be mapped properly. The Postal Code table includes unique entries for each combination of postal code, city, state and county. As you’ll see in

Have you heard of the Innovative Idea Lab? Similar to the SirsiDynix Enhancement Forums, Idea Lab is a partnership between Innovative and the Innovative User Group. Unlike the SD forums, Idea Lab functions on a schedule. Challenges are issued to users, who can then suggest ideas which are evaluated and selected within weeks. The next Polaris challenge will launch on January 16. We don't have details on the topic yet, but all library staff are able to participate. To prepare, register for Idea Lab with the site code CCS. January is fast approaching, and with it, many training sessions at the CCS office. We recognize the importance of training and complexity of scheduling staff to attend, but also know that inclement weather can create problems. In the event that the CCS office cannot open or an Innovative staff member is delayed due to inclement weather, we will take several steps to notify affected library staff, including: email registered training participants, post a notice on the CCS website, and (in the event of the office closing) post to the Emergency Closing Center. Holiday Closings The CCS office will be closed on December 25th and 26th, as well as January 1st and 2nd. Please call 847-483-8600 an

Preparing for Polaris: Orders and EDI

Along with training and data testing, there are many things libraries can do to prepare for the migration to Polaris. Thank you to the libraries who have shared their new-found Polaris knowledge and preparation tips with CCS and their colleagues across the consortium! Read on as we highlight one of those tips. The Algonquin Public Library has been working closely with B&T to coordinate the ordering transition from Symphony to Polaris. Below is an outline of the steps completed so far: 1. Worked with CCS and B&T to set up B&T Z39.50 connectivity to the Polaris Test Server 2. Reviewed and updated Grid Codes on TitleSource360 3. Reviewed MARC Profiles in TitleSource360 and modified where needed

Migration Update: December 8, 2017

Today marks the last day of training held at CCS in 2017. In 2018, we will host several CCS- and Polaris-led training sessions as we prepare for go live in April. Libraries will also host in-house training. Check with your library lead for more details about your library's internal training. The 3rd party integration survey is due today. CCS staff are contacting 3rd party vendors to determine the procedure for updating integrations for each. CCS will work with libraries and vendors to cut over to Polaris when the Polaris database is up, minimizing downtime. We anticipate having a more robust schedule for when that cut over will happen for each vendor in January. In This Issue Time Trial Co
