How to Prepare: Holds on Discard Items
In Symphony, if an item marked for "Discard" has an active hold, the hold will prevent the item from being removed from the system by the regular monthly reports.
The BLUECloud Analytics report "Holds on Discard Items" will help you identify holds placed at your library that are preventing an item from being discarded from the system. The items may be your items, or they may belong to another library.
How to use this report:
Depending on how your library typically handles holds, multiple departments may need to be involved in the process of dealing with these holds:
Should the hold be cancelled?
If so, do you need to notify the patron?
Should a replacement copy be ordered to fill the hold?
Should the hold be cancelled and re-placed on a different copy or similar record in the database?
Will the hold be filled by another item on the record in a timely manner?
If a copy-level hold, can it be re-placed as a title-level hold?
To access this report, log into BCA. On your home page, select Shared Reports.
In Shared Reports, select the Library Dropbox folder.
Choose the Database cleanup - Users, Holds folder to view the reports.
Select the Holds on Discard Items report.
Select your library from the list.
Click Run Report to view a list of holds placed at your library that are currently preventing an item from being discarded.
