Advisory Group Updates

Circulation Advisory Group
The Circulation Advisory Group had a long list of settings to tackle at their June 26 meeting. The discussion included how to best consolidate patron codes, vocabulary for patron and item blocks, automating lost item recovery, and discussed settings for overdues, fines, claims returned and lost items.
IT Advisory Group
The IT Advisory Group met on June 19. The main point of discussion was whether or not to proceed with individual logins or continue to use shared, generic logins for departments. After a lengthy discussion on workflow and security of the database, the group recommended that CCS libraries use individual logins. Read more about individual logins in last week's How To Prepare post.
PAS Advisory Group
Our PAS Advisory group also met on June 19. They helped decide on shared language to be used in the staff client and in PowerPAC (the public catalog), recommended system-wide hold settings for patrons, and debated the pros and cons of various PowerPAC settings (including which items to suppress from patron view).
Cataloging Advisory Group
On June 29th, the Technical Services Advisory Group reviewed a number of cataloging settings, including:
Retention of deleted bibliographic and item records
System indexing defaults
Fields to be retained when overlaying bibliographic records
Shared material types
Which fields in the bibliographic record call numbers should be pulled from
Our advisory groups asked many helpful and thoughtful questions during their meetings, and we will bring those questions to our second Polaris site visit next week.
