Preparing for Polaris: Orders and EDI

Along with training and data testing, there are many things libraries can do to prepare for the migration to Polaris. Thank you to the libraries who have shared their new-found Polaris knowledge and preparation tips with CCS and their colleagues across the consortium! Read on as we highlight one of those tips.

The Algonquin Public Library has been working closely with B&T to coordinate the ordering transition from Symphony to Polaris. Below is an outline of the steps completed so far:

1. Worked with CCS and B&T to set up B&T Z39.50 connectivity to the Polaris Test Server

2. Reviewed and updated Grid Codes on TitleSource360

3. Reviewed MARC Profiles in TitleSource360 and modified where needed

4. Created B&T accounts for Polaris

5. Submitted a test order for both branches on the B&T accounts set up for Polaris

6. Uploaded the on-order records into Polaris and reviewed MARC data

7. Currently troubleshooting issues with on-order items not attaching to bib

Libraries may want to consider implementing a similar preparation process with their vendors, whether B&T, Ingram, Midwest, or other. Contact your vendor rep to get the ball rolling, and open a help ticket if you need CCS assistance in any way. Thank you to Gary C. for sharing!

We know that libraries have many questions about transitioning acquisitions orders from Symphony to Polaris. To help us learn more, CCS has reached out to Curt Leppert of B&T to set up a Q&A session. He will cover 970 grids, EDI, managing the transition and more. This meeting will be held at CCS on Friday, January 12 at 9:30 am. If you are interested in attending, please register. Limited to 1 per library. We will open up any available seats to individuals on the wait list on January 3.
