Patron Registration Birthdate Field
One of the July 2017 Governing Board decisions was all libraries will collect patron birthdates with patron registration. However, the birth date field has yet to be flagged as a required field in the patron registration workform. Before going live on Polaris, we decided that the field should not be flagged right away in order to allow libraries and patrons to settle into the new system. We anticipated many patron questions on passwords and wanted staff to be able to quickly update the password without needing to ask for the birthdate at the same time.
Now that we are over a year past go-live, the birthdate field will be flagged as a required field in the patron registration workform beginning July 1, 2019.
If a patron does not have a date entered in the birthdate field, staff will be required to enter a date if modifying the patron registration workform. This includes actions such as: resetting a password, updating phone/email address or account preferences, registering a new patron, or renewing an existing card.
The system will not prompt staff to enter a birthdate if performing actions outside of the patron registration workform. This includes actions such as: checking items out, renewing items, and placing holds.
