To recap:

Interested staff can follow the REALM study on Web Junction. This multi-agency study will span three phases, the first of which focuses on safe practices and materials handling in public libraries.

Governing Board has approved the following:

  • CCS strongly recommends that curbside, drive-through and delivery services resume no earlier than Phase 3. Any curbside, drive-through and delivery services active in Phase 2 should be deemed essential by the library.

  • Returns of library materials are discouraged before Phase 3. CCS will bulk extend due dates as needed.

  • When RAILS delivery service resumes, CCS libraries will follow a shared quarantine period based on RAILS guidance until new research calls for a revision to either the length of the quarantine period or the phases in which it is required.

  • The CCS overdue notice schedule will be adjusted so the first overdue notice is sent an appropriate amount of time after the quarantine period recommended by RAILS.

  • The CCS policy regarding pickup anywhere for CCS patrons will be suspended until Phase 4. Libraries may choose to offer service to CCS or non-CCS patrons.

  • CCS libraries will not participate in RAILS delivery until discussed again at the June Governing Board meeting except to return materials to owning libraries.

More on Delivery:

RAILS will communicate directly with libraries when they are ready to resume delivery service. The first round of delivery will focus on returning materials to their home libraries, regardless of the item's current destination.

CCS recommends that library staff pull locally owned material from blue bins prior to the first RAILS pickup (date to be determined). Be sure to check in material and reactive any declined holds.

Workflow and ILS Considerations:

CCS has opened tickets for each library that has submitted a reopening survey. We are working with libraries to customize PowerPAC and notice language to reflect modified holds practices. Several libraries have also requested other system changes. As we work through these changes, please allow 5 business days for additional ILS setting requests to allow adequate time for these more involved issues.

Library Reopening Survey Results:

Take a look at the slides from today's presentation for some snapshots of survey results. Please keep in mind that libraries have updated their plans from the original survey responses and will continue to do so as the situation changes.
