Title Changes, Ceased Publications, and Cancellations

If a magazine changes title:

  • Update the old MARC bibliographic record with the information about the title change.

  • Update the old SHR by changing the Status to “Not Currently Received.”

  • Remove the predicted issues from the old Check In Record.

  • It is recommended that you also add a note about the title change on the old SHR.

  • Bring in a new MARC bibliographic record for the new title.

  • Create a new SHR attached to the new title.

If a magazine is no longer being published:

  • Update the MARC bibliographic record with the information about the ceased publication.

  • Update the SHR by changing the Status to "Not Currently Received."

  • Remove the predicted issues from the Check In Record.

  • Add a note about the last issue published.

If your library has cancelled a magazine:

  • Do not update the MARC bibliographic record.

  • Update the SHR by changing the Status to "Not Currently Received."

  • Remove the predicted issues from the Check In Record.

  • Add a note about the decision to cancel and the last issue the library will receive if known.

In all of these situations, you will want to keep the SHR until you are ready to withdraw the issues. Once the issues have been withdrawn, delete the SHR. Once all libraries have deleted their issues and their SHRs, the bibliographic record can be deleted.
